📰 News we're reading

• Coronado students conclude holiday blanket drive for veterans (thecoronadonews.com) — Coronado students just wrapped up a holiday blanket drive that collected 51 blankets for homeless veterans, far surpassing their original goal. Led by the Coronado High School Architecture and Design Club, donation boxes at CHS, CMS, and Village Elementary drew strong community support, translating to roughly $1,000 in in-kind contributions for veterans in need.

• Sinkhole caused by second water main leak under streets of Coronado (thecoronadonews.com) — Part of Orange Avenue and Fourth Street in Coronado faced temporary closures after a New Year’s Eve sinkhole was traced to an 80-year-old, 16-inch water main under the city’s main highway. California American Water says the damaged section is isolated, customers still have water, and a broader repair-and-upgrade plan is being developed with the city and Caltrans.

• Oyster shell craft workshop (coronadotimes.com) — Coronado residents can now snag early spots for a hands-on oyster shell craft workshop at the John D. Spreckels Center, with general registration opening January 14. The February 6 class includes all supplies and teaches simple decoupage techniques, with fees varying by residency and senior discounts.
