Chiropractor, Brother of Media Critic James Rainey Found Murdered in Venice Boulevard Office

May 31 - 8 p.m. - Culver City resident Robert Rainey's death is being investigated as a homicide.

Rainey, 54 (previous reports stated he was 52), was found at approximately 8:15 in his Venice Boulevard office Thursday morning.

Officer Bruce Borihanh of the Los Angeles Police Department said, "Upon arrival, officers observed the body of a male lying on the floor inside the location. The victim had suffered severe head trauma and was transported to a local hospital.''

Rainey, who police described as an assault victim, was pronounced dead shortly after arrival at the hospital.

Detectives believe a patient arrived at the office for a scheduled appointment just after 8 a.m. and saw Rainey, who owned and practiced in the office, lying on the floor, Borihanh said.

"Detectives are treating this investigation as a homicide,'' Borihanh said. "The motive behind this crime is unknown, and there are no suspects at this time.''

Robert Rainey, the  52-year-old brother of Los Angeles Times media critic James Rainey was found dead in his Venice Boulevard chiropractic office in Palms, at 8:13 a.m. Thursday morning, reports the LA Weekly. 

Los Angeles Police are investigating his death as a homicide. The Los Angeles Times reports that police say Rainey suffered blunt force trauma to the head.

Rainey's office is believed to be at 9225 Venice Blvd., near the border of Culver City, according to the Weekly.
