Culver City Files Action Challenging LAX Expansion
The following statement was issued by City of Culver City Manager John Nachbar on Thurs. May 30.

The City of Culver City, in cooperation with the Cities of Inglewood and Ontario, and the County of San Bernardino, today [May 30] filed a challenge to the approval by the City of Los Angeles of the Los Angeles International Airport Specific Plan expansion project.
Culver City’s Mayor, Jeffrey Cooper, explained that “Culver City is not opposed to modernization of LAX in an environmentally responsible way. However, the environmental review for the proposed project, like the review for the project before it in 2004, does not take into account the enormous traffic, aircraft noise and air quality impacts the project will have on the citizens of Culver City. Nor does it propose adequate mitigation measures for those impacts, including regionalization alternatives.
"Culver City attempted to resolve these issues with Los Angeles World Airports amicably through mediation before filing the challenge. However, LAWA did not respond to our request. Therefore, in order to preserve the City’s right to challenge the environmental review, the City filed a Petition for Writ of Mandate in the Los Angeles Superior Court. Culver City continues to remain open to dialogue with LAWA and the City of Los Angeles concerning these issues, that are so critical, not only for Culver City, but for the Southern California region as a whole.”
Challenges have also been filed by the Los Angeles Service Workers Union and Alliance for a Regional Solution to Airport Congestion.
