Culver City High School Production of ‘Rent’

The school's Academy of Visual and Performing Arts students will perform the smash hit musical from March 14 through March 16.

The Academy of Visual and Performing Arts students at Culver City High School are bringing Rent to the stage.

The smash hit musical written by Jonathan Larson and based on Puccini's opera La Boheme, follows a bohemian community in New York City during the late 1980s.

The show  - which ran on Broadway for 12 years - follows the triumphs and tragedies of a group of artists as they pursue their dreams. Mark, a filmmaker, Roger, a musician, Mimi, a dancer, Maureen, a performance artist, Joanne, a lawyer, Collins, a professor, Angel, a cross-dressing drummer, and Benny an entrepreneur who married a rich girl and moved to the suburbs try to survive a year in Alphabet City in the midst of the AIDS epidemic.

The show includes a slew of well-known songs including La Vie Boheme and Seasons of Love.

Performances will be held at 7 p.m. on March 14, 15 and 16 at Robert Frost Auditorium and a 1 p.m. matinee on March 16.

Tickets are $15 for general admission and $10 for students, children, seniors, faculty and staff. They are available online by clicking here and at the door.
