Police Replace Trailer's Worth Of Gifts Stolen From LA County Nonprofit

Police recovered a stolen trailer that was full of gifts, but the gifts were gone. They worked to replace them in time for the holidays.

CULVER CITY, CA — A trailer of gifts that was stolen from a charity last month was recovered by police, but many of the presents weren't, prompting the Culver City Police Department to work to replace the gifts just in time for Christmas and Hanukkah, police said Thursday.

Walk 'n Rollers, a non-profit focused on child safety, had the trailer stolen on Nov. 22. It was full of items meant to be holiday gifts, the Culver City Police Department said.

"Investigators knew locating the trailer would prove difficult, but they dug in and got to work. A few weeks later, the work paid off. Thanks to the diligent work of detectives, there was a break in the case. An arrest was made, and the trailer was recovered," the department wrote.

Many of the scooters, bikes and equipment were not recovered, however. So the department "gathered resources and worked to replace the items," police said.

"Days before Christmas and Hanukkah, department members assembled bikes and gear. Just before the holidays, officers delivered the bikes, scooters, helmets, and equipment to Walk ‘n Rollers leader Jim Shanman," the department wrote.
