Dear Chief Bixby,
For many reasons, I am proud to be a resident of Fox Hills, Culver City. Today that reason is to commend you and your force of policemen and women on the performance I observe them perform everyday.
I don't think many of us are truly conscious of our law enforcement people. They are always just "there." Well, I as a citizen of Culver City I want to exuberantly thank you for the outstanding responsibilities I observe them performing every day.
From patrolling the schools to seeing that our children are safe (I'm an educator), to cruising our streets for traffic offenders and dangerous criminals, to policing the 405 in emergencies, to running to my house and checking all the rooms for burglars when my nursing assistant or I set off the burglar alarm I have observed the excellence in which they execute their assignments.
If I have occasion to stop an officer to ask a question, give praise, or just say Hi, they are always polite and courteous. It is comforting to see them in Starbucks or a local restaurant.
I have reviewed some of the comments on the CCPD website. I do not agree with the ones that are negative in content. To the contrary, I find no fault with your department.
Thankfully, I have only called on the officers once. When I first moved in twenty-five years ago, I was sure I heard someone in between my condo and the adjacent apartment building. To my surprise, three officers and a K-9 arrived it seems before I put down the telephone. I was extremely embarrassed when there was no burglar. Ever since then I have given praise to the officers for jobs well done. When appropriate, I discuss their excellence with friends or acquaintances. I feel so upset when I hear others degrade the department.
They do this because they did not get the outcome they wanted from the officers. Sometimes the law can be contrary and harsh to one's expectations.
And so, Chief, in the wake of Louisiana, Minnesota, and especially Dallas I give my "safety keepers" a five stars out of five stars! Keep up the outstanding policing.
