Culver City Restaurant Forces Vermont Taco Shop to Change Name

The Culver City-based restaurant claims it has an 'exclusive registered trademark' on the name.

CULVER CITY, CA -- A Culver City restaurant forced a Vermont taco stand to change its name because of trademark infringement.

Culver City-based Tito's Tacos Mexican sent a cease-and-desist letter to the 10-week old Tito's Tacos of Vermont claiming the California eatery owns the "exclusive registered trademark' to the name since 1962. Tito's Tacos Mexican has only the one location in Culver City.

Tito Garza, 29, the owner of Tito's Tacos of Vermont, said he does not have the money to fight the lawsuit and will change the name. Garza started his stand by the side of the road in Brattleboro, VT 10 weeks ago and hopes to build up enough business to buy a food truck next summer.
