Echo Horizon School Celebrates Final 30th Anniversary Event

Over 400 present and past students, parents, faculty and staff came out to celebrate.

On June 9, Echo Horizon School celebrated its 30th anniversary with a community event attended by over 400 present and past students, parents, faculty and staff.

In 1983, a total of 20 students entered Echo Horizon School for the first time, the result of a commitment Carol Proctor Landsberg and her late husband, Kent H. Landsberg, had to fulfill their vision of a school where children who were deaf or hard of hearing could be mainstreamed with their hearing peers in a manner that benefited both and made a stronger whole.

Today, the school’s vision and commitment remains unchanged - to provide the children entrusted to them with strong academic preparation within a warm, inclusive environment that fosters an optimistic spirit, an ethical approach to life and a firm sense of self-confidence.

Throughout its 30-year history, Echo Horizon School has built a strong resume of accolades.  This year, it earned an Apple Distinguished School designation for the third straight year in a row, recognizing its exemplary program that leverages cutting edge technologies and teaching practices to create a dynamic 21st Century learning environment.

At Echo Horizon School character education is valued as highly as academic accomplishment because in a fast-paced, high pressure world, wholesome values and the time to slow down and think matter more than ever.

In addition to recognizing Echo Horizon’s 30-year history, the community also celebrated the retirement of Head of School, Paula Dashiell, who has led the school for 27 years. As the school continues a nationwide search for its new leader, current Assistant Head of School, Martha Schuur, will serve as Acting Head of School for the 2013-2014 school year.
