El Rincon Students Get Egg-Cited About Science [PHOTOS]

The Culver City Elementary school's third-grade class tested a hypothesis that devices could be made to protect an egg from breaking when dropped off the school's second-story balcony.

Students in Allison Pryharski's El Rincon Elementary third-grade class could barely contain their 'egg-citement' last week, when they were finally able to participate in “Egg Drop Thursday.”

The class was given the hypothesis that devices could be created that could potentially protect an egg from breaking when dropped off of the second-story balcony.

Using used plastic bags, string, peanut butter, foam and other materials to build their designs; the students practiced and perfected their final project over several days.

On Egg Drop Thursday they tested their projects by releasing them from the balcony. A member from each group waited at the bottom to see if the egg survived.

Loud cheers could be heard from the classmates as each group held up a surviving egg. Although half of the eggs didn't make it, all students were involved and thoroughly enjoyed the experience.
