Golden State Water Company Completes Baldwin Hills Slope Stabilization Project

The $5.7 million project is part of an infrastructure improvement plan for Culver City.

The Golden State Water Company has completed its Baldwin Hills Slope Stabilization Project at the utility’s Perham and Baldwin Hills plant sites in Culver City.

The $5.7 million project, which began in 2011, is designed to protect the integrity of the water system and storage facilities and to reduce the likelihood of damage during a natural disaster.

According to a release from Golden State, the Baldwin Hills Plant contains two 1-million gallon tanks and the Perham Plant has a 200,000-gallon reservoir and booster pump station. Both facilities store water and move water through the distribution system in Culver City.

Over the past year, the work included initial site investigations, geotechnical surveying and land mapping to support the project design and permitting. Once the stabilization structures were in place, additional slope grading, vegetation planting and drainage system work was performed.

“We operate above-ground water tanks and booster pump stations at these locations,” Golden State District Manager Paul Rowley stated in a release. “These important facilities support the water system operations in Culver City and these projects enhance the reliability of our water system.”
