Hearing Culver City Mentioned A Lot on NPR? Here's Why
NPR started mentioning the city's name in 2004 and has continued to regularly do so ever since.

CULVER CITY, CA — If you're a National Public Radio listener, you probably have heard programs such as "Morning Edition" and "All Things Considered" mentioned that it is coming to you from "NPR West in Culver City" instead of Los Angeles or Southern California as many other national broadcasters do when filing reports in the Southland.
The plug is giving the town a little cachet, Mayor Jim B. Clarke told the Washington Post.
“When you are one of 88 independent cities in L.A. County, anytime you can get recognition it is a plus,” he told the Post, “especially when associated with [a media organization] as prestigious as NPR.”

Aside from being accurate — NPR West is located in Culver City — the broadcaster is required to do so because of an agreement with the city. In order to get exemptions from the city's ordinances on the number of satellite dishes NPR can have on top of its building, the broadcaster agreed to mention Culver City anytime anything produced at NPR West is broadcast.
It's a clause that even NPR on-air personalities are unaware of.
