High Temps, High Surf Forecast For Today

Temperatures are expected to hit a high of 80 degrees in Culver City, Thursday. A high surf advisory is also in effect.

A high pressure system that began on Wednesday is expected to continue through today. Yesterday, record-breaking temperatures were recorded in four L.A. spots including UCLA and LAX. The high at the university was 89 degrees, breaking the previous record of 83 set in 2001, City News Service Reported. 

It was a full 10 degrees cooler in Culver City with a high of 79 degrees.

In addition to the unseasonably warm temperatures, big waves will once again hit the  Los Angeles County coast today. Waves up to 14 feet are expected and a high surf advisory will be i effect between 4 p.m. Thursday and 9 a.m. Saturday.

"Large breakers impacting the coast will cause a high risk of rip currents and the possibility of minor tidal overflow at times of high tide," the National Weather Service warned.

A 26-year-old man died Monday night off the coast of Huntington Beach after he and his friend were caught in a riptide during high-surf in deadly cold waters.

Meanwhile, temperatures will remain well above normal today, with Culver City expecting a daytime high of 80 degrees. Overnight, temperatures will drop to around 47 degrees, with a high of 72 degrees expected on Friday.

A warming trend is forecast for the early part of next week.
