On Wednesday night at approximately 6:45 p.m. a vehicle traveling eastbound on Culver Boulevard approached Overland Avenue. According to Lt. Ron Iizuka of the Culver City Police Department, "The driver appeared to have run the red light, which caused the vehicle to hit another vehicle that was traveling northbound on Overland Avenue."
The driver of the striking vehicle then fled the location on foot. He was apprehended and arrested for felony hit and run.
The victim was an 87-year-old resident of Culver City. He was transported to UCLA Medical Center by the Culver City Fire Department. As of 3 p.m. Thursday, there was no update on the man's injuries.
Patch previously reported that according to Capt. Dave Tankenson the man who caused the crash was "an elderly man." However, that information was incorrect. He was in fact the victim.
The investigation is ongoing.
