Judd Hirsch to Appear in ‘Freud’s Last Session’ at The Broad

The Tony Award winner will play Dr. Sigmund Freud opposite Tom Cavanagh as C.S. Lewis in the acclaimed New York production, which will run at Santa Monica's The Broad Stage through Feb. 10.

Freud’s Last Session centers on legendary psychoanalyst Dr. Sigmund Freud (Judd Hirsch), who invites the young, rising academic star C. S. Lewis (Tom Cavanaugh) to his home in London. The two clash on the existence of God, love, sex and the meaning of life.

The acclaimed New York production written by Mark St. Germain and directed by Tyler Merchant makes its way to Santa Monica’s Broad Stage for a limited engagement: Jan. 11 through Feb. 10.

The Off-Broadway debut of the play took place on July 22, 2010 to rave reviews and became a sellout sensation throughout its two-year run.

Productions have also been staged in Chicago, Buenos Aires, Stockholm and Dallas. Additional productions are set to open this season in London, Mexico City, Sydney, Madrid, Sao Paulo, Singapore, Copenhagen, Philadelphia, Phoenix, Cleveland, Tucson, and Honolulu.

Judd Hirsch is a two-time Tony Award winner for I’m Not Rappaport and Conversations With My Father. He has also won two Emmys for his role as Alex Reiger in the long-running and iconic hit television series Taxi. He also starred in films A Beautiful Mind, Ordinary People, Independence Day, and on television in Damages, Numb3rs, George & Leo and Dear John.

Tom Cavanagh is best known as the star of the hit NBC series Ed. On Broadway, he starred in Urinetown and Shenandoah. In film he also starred in Bang Bang You’re Dead, Two Weeks, The Cake Eaters and Gray Matters and in television on Scrubs, Jack & Bobby, Royal Pains, Trust Me, Eli Stone and The Outer Limits.
