Mandrake Bar To Close After 18 Years In Culver City
The Arts District's Mandrake Bar plans to close to make way for a new watering hole, according to its owners.

CULVER CITY, CA — Mandrake Bar will close next week after 18 years in the Arts District to make way for a new establishment, the bar announced.
The bar, with its varied programming, art exhibits and unique decor, helped put the arts in Culver City's Arts District since it opened in 2006. The bar's last day in business is March 16.
"We are excited that new energy will be imbued into the space and we are proud to be part of the lineage of bars at 2692 S. La Cienega. We are beyond grateful to our wonderful staff members over the years who have not only taken care of you, our cherished clientele, and our business, but have become family," the bar's management wrote in an Instagram post. "We hope that they will continue to be friendly faces behind the new bar."

The bar's owners say the space's "next incarnation" will be called No Smoking and open in April.
Shin Irvin, owner of Shin’s Pizza in Cypress Park, and veteran bar manager Ben Rojo are taking over the lease and will run No Smoking, which should retain Mandrake Bar's comfortable feel, the Los Angeles Times reported.
