Police Blotter: Snatched Handbag and Stolen Merchandise

Our crime roundup includes a woman who had her purse stolen and a CVS that got some unexpected visitors.

This week, a woman returned to her parking space only to find it empty and a grocery shopping trip ended in a crime. Read on to learn what happened. 

He wasn't shopping for groceries

On Sept. 12 at approximately 4 p.m., a shopper was placing groceries into her car in a parking lot on the 11000 block of Jefferson Boulevard when a male African-American in his late teens, with a short ponytail, light-colored shirt and denim shorts ran up, brushed past her and grabbed her purse from the shopping cart. The suspect ran southbound through the lot and out of sight.

Officers conducted an area check but were unable to locate the suspect or the victim's discarded purse.

On Sept. 12 at 10:30 a.m., an armed robbery occurred on the 5600 block of Sepulveda Boulevard. The suspect, who was described as a male Hispanic in his late 30s, with a medium build, short dark hair and a goatee, entered the business, presented a demand letter and showed a firearm. The suspect then took $2,850 and fled the location. He has not been apprehended.

The car wasn't where she left it…

On Sept. 13 officers responded to a grand theft auto investigation on the 5300 block of Slauson Avenue. The officers met with the victim, who said she locked and parked her vehicle on Sept. 12 at 8:30 p.m. When she returned to her car in the morning, she discovered it was missing.

A little late-night shopping

On Sept. 14 at 11:45 p.m., officers responded to a burglar alarm at the CVS drugstore on the 6200 block of Bristol Parkway. The officers arrived and discovered the rear door to the store was open. After a search of the interior, it was determined that someone had entered the store and removed merchandise.
