Strong Winds Knock Down Power Lines, Trees in Inglewood
A "downburst" may have caused several trees to be uprooted. One tree fell on a parked car.

INGLEWOOD, CA - A power pole and some live wires fell on a freeway offramp in Inglewood today, blocking traffic for a time but resulting in no injuries.
The problem was reported about 6:20 a.m. at the Manchester Boulevard offramp from the northbound San Diego (405) Freeway, according to the county fire department.
The wires may have been hit by lightning, according to the California Highway Patrol. The lanes were cleared within about an hour.

Elsewhere in the city, several trees were knocked down by a possible "downburst," according to the National Weather Service.
One tree landed on a parked car, crushing its roof. No one was injured.

A downburst is a strong downdraft wind from a thunderstorm. Once that wind hits the ground, it blows outward in all directions before curling back up.
A downburst can cause severe damage akin to a tornado.
