Video: Jim Clarke Promises to Bring Local and National Experience to City Council
Jim Clarke told attendees at his kick-off campaign Saturday he would use his experience and contacts from his work in Los Angeles and Washington to push Culver City's agenda.
The room on the second floor of the Westside Peace Center on Sepulveda Boulevard was crammed Saturday afternoon with supporters of City Council candidate Jim Clarke. Many sported “I love Culver City” stickers they were handed as they walked in. The white walls were covered up with the navy blue and yellow ‘Jim Clarke’ posters and large poster boards were attached to the walls, offering an interactive approach to attendees.
Each poster had a different heading, from ‘I will walk with Jim’ and ‘My great idea for Jim’ to ‘Why I love Culver City’ and ‘I will host an event’. Supporters were encouraged to use the markers provided to fill in the sheets with their ideas or to sign up.
Clarke has been a Culver City resident for 17 years. As he mentioned in his speech, over the years his work has taken him to other places – including Washington, where he took on the role of Chief of Staff for both Diane Watson and Brad Sherman. Currently the Director of Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa’s office of grants, Clarke told attendees he would bring his local and national experience to bear in his role as a Culver City Councilmember when it came to making contacts with heavy hitters in Washington and pleading Culver City’s case.
