Week in Review: Construction, Pot and Affordable Housing

This week was a busy one in Culver City--the West Los Angeles College SEIR was made final, the City Council backed an affordable housing initiative and pot was the talk of the town.

Culver City residents will see some changes to the face of the city in the coming years as a result of key decisions made this week. The Los Angeles Community College's Board of Trustees certified an environmental report that will allow West Los Angeles College to proceed with upwards of 350,000 square feet of new development, while the City Council made a decision to back an affordable housing initiative for 4043 Irving Place.

On the lighter side of the news, we caught up with a Silician tailor who said she was born with a gift for sewing.

MONDAY

The City Council approved an initiative late Monday night in a 4-0 vote to contribute $6 million toward the building of 12 affordable housing units.

TUESDAY

WEDNESDAY 

Parent and Patch columnist Mike King believes that kids can use their old backpacks and pencils as they return to classes--and they might learn about saving money and recycling in the process.

Members of the Culver City Democratic Club discussed pot legalization, air pollution rules and congressional redistricting, issues that California voters will decide in November.

The Los Angeles Community College Board of Trustees certified an environmental impact report that will allow West Los Angeles College to add new facilities and renovate existing structures.

THURSDAY 

Facing 24 felony counts in connection with his marijuana collective, a Los Angeles judge gave Jeffrey Keith Joseph  another month to prepare for a preliminary hearing.

After a lively discussion about Proposition 19, which would legalize marijuana in California, the Culver City Democratic Club voted unanimously to endorse the campaign.
