Man Killed, Child Injured When Car Gets Lodged Under Big Rig Trailer

A man was killed and a 10-year-old girl hurt when their vehicle was lodged under a big rig's trailer near downtown San Jose Friday morning.

SANTA CLARA COUNTY, CA -- A man was killed and a 10-year-old girl hurt when their vehicle was lodged under a big rig's trailer Friday morning near downtown San Jose, police said.

The crash was reported around 7:40 a.m. March 31 at Park Avenue and McEvoy Street, just west of the Caltrain tracks.

The man, who was driving a Pontiac Firebird, was pronounced dead at the scene. The girl was extracted from the car and taken to the hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries, according to police.

The big rig driver stayed at the scene after the collision and is cooperating with investigators.

The crash is San Jose's 11th fatal collision of the year. Anyone with information has been asked to call San Jose police at (408) 277-6454.
