CHP Rescues Teen Thrown from Horse in Mt. Diablo State Park Thursday
CHP officials said the injuries could have been more severe had she not been wearing a helmet.
Contra Costa County. CA— A 16-year-old girl had to be rescued by a helicopter Thursday afternoon after she was knocked off her horse in rugged terrain in Mount Diablo State Park, according to the California Highway Patrol.
A CHP helicopter unit was requested for the rescue operation at 12:47 p.m. Thursday by California State Parks officers and San Ramon Valley Fire Protection District crews.
The CHP received reports that a teen had been thrown from a horse in difficult terrain in the 20,000-acre state park in Contra Costa County.

The three-person crew prepared a lifting device for the rescue after landing in the area and used it lower a crewmember down to the victim and hoist her up into the helicopter, according to the CHP.
She was then flown to a nearby trauma center for treatment of injuries not considered life-threatening. The injuries could have been more severe had she not been wearing a helmet, according to the CHP.
