Danville Compost Event Booked

DANVILLE, CA — Danville residents can get up to 50 gallons of free compost on April 22, thanks to a new initiative from RecycleSmart and Republic Services.

Composting is an environmentally friendly alternative to throwing away food waste, which makes up 20 percent of landfills and contributes to methane emissions. Instead, composted waste can act as a soil conditioner and introduce beneficial moisture and nutrients into the soil, and reduce the need for harmful pesticides.

On April 22 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., residents of Danville, Alamo, Walnut Creek and Diablo can take up to 50 gallons of compost, while supplies last. Guests can bring five-gallon buckets, cardboard boxes, or strong containers that can be lifted. No bags or truck beds are permitted.

Guests are asked to bring ID, close-toed shoes, and bring only one guest per household.

The event will take place at Creekside Community Church at 1350 Danville Boulevard in Alamo. Guests must register in advance and arrive only during their appointment. See here to register.
