Danville To Approve $4M In Contracts For Diablo Vista Upgrades

The Danville Town Council is set to approve contracts for an 11,000-foot-skate park next to a renovated Diablo Vista Park.

DANVILLE, CA — The Danville Town Council is set to approve a construction contract for a $2 million renovation of Diablo Vista Park that was originally scheduled for 2023. The awarding of a $1,583,292 contract to Suarez and Munoz Construction Inc. is on the town's consent calendar for its Tuesday meeting, meaning that it will not be discussed or debated by council members.

The renovation will replace aging playground equipment with updated features for children of all ages and abilities, shade structures, and fitness equipment for adults and seniors, according to a town staff report. The renovation will also preserve the park's iconic snake structure, and won't encroach any further onto the scenic hill on which it's located.

The project was originally combined with the adjacent multi-sport sake park, but was later separated to secure more competitive bids, according to the staff report. The council is also set to approve a contract for the 11,000 square-foot Diablo Vista Park Multi-Sport Skate Park located next to the playground. It awarded a bid for $1,828,753 to Suarez and Munoz Construction, and the total project has an approved cost of $2,011,628, according to a town staff report.

After re-bidding the project in early 2025, the town received 13 bids, and the lowest was from Suarez and Munoz Construction. The project will be funded using a combination of Parkland In Lieu Fees (fees a developer pays to a city in lieu of dedicating land for parks within new development in order to fund improvements of current parks), a transfer from the skate park project, and Senior Services Funds. The Town Council meeting will take place Tuesday at 5 p.m. at the Town Meeting Hall at 201 Front Street. See here for the full agenda.
