Danville Bakery Named One Of Bay Area's Best New Bakeries

The East Bay Bakery, a bakery with Indonesian and other Asian influences, was named one of the region's 10 best new bakeries.

DANVILLE, CA — The East Bay Times named Danville’s East Bay Bakery, which opened on Crow Canyon Road in July, one of the Bay Area’s 10 best new bakeries. The Republic of Cake, an Orinda bakery specializing in cupcakes that relocated to Danville in 2022, also received an honorary mention.

“This stand-out bakery with the simple name has been wowing locals with its sweet and savory offerings since it opened in July,” The Times says of East Bay Bakery. “Glass cases display in jewel-like fashion the laminated croffles, curry puffs and pretzels that have become proprietor-baker Gaby Lubaba’s signatures.”

Chef Gaby Lubaba, also named one of the paper’s “Chefs to Watch,” mixes classic French tradition with elements of her native Indonesia and elsewhere in Asia. In addition to classics like croissants, danishes, and its signature croffles, the bakery also offers curry puffs, banh mi danishes stuffed with meatballs and pickled veggies, and jajan pasar, a traditional Indonesian arrangement of different brightly-colored sweets.
