Danville Council To Approve Flashing Beacons For Pedestrian Safety
The Town Council will consider five flashing beacons along the Iron Horse Trail and another in front of Monte Vista High School.
DANVILLE, CA — The Danville Town Council is set to approve a plan to install Rectangular Rapid Flashing Beacons at seven crosswalks at their Tuesday meeting.
RRFB's are pedestrian-activated warning signs designed to improve visibility and alert drivers to people crossing the street, particularly at intersections without stop signs or traffic lights. The high-intensity flashing lights are designed to be visible to drivers even in poor lighting or intense weather conditions. Danville already has nine locations, and has found them to be effective and reliable.
The council is set to approve a Consent Calendar item to install seven more throughout town, notably at five locations along the Iron Horse Trail: Linda Mesa Avenue, Love Lane, Del Amigo Road, Hartford Road, and Prospect Avenue. The others are planned at Stone Valley Road in front of Monte Vista High School, and at the intersection of Love Lane and Railroad Avenue.

The new beacons will be provided by Traffic and Parking Control Co., Inc., the same company that built the existing installations. Staff hopes that consistent equipment will help avoid confusing pedestrians, cyclists, and drivers used to the current beacons.
The Town Council will approve $149,000 from funds allocated in the FY 2024-25 Capital Improvement Program. Construction is expected to begin in the fall.
