Danville Council To Consider Affordability Requirement For New ADUs

A Camino Tassajara development could include two deed-restricted ADU rentals for low-income households under a new proposal.

DANVILLE, CA — The Danville Town Council will vote Tuesday whether to lock in below-market rental rates for two accessory dwelling units related to a new nine-lot subdivision at 2830 Camino Tassajara.

If approved, the Regulatory Agreement and Declaration of Restrictive Covenants would impose a 20-year-affordability term on the two 414-square-foot ADUs. If homeowners rent the ADUs, they would need to be leased to households that make between 50 to 80% of Contra Costa County's median income. Based on current figures, the maximum allowable rent for a two-person household would be about $2416 a month including utilities, according to a staff report.

Preference for the units would be given first to current Danville residents, and then to Danville employees, before being opened to other eligible renters.
