DANVILLE, CA — If you've been to downtown Danville lately, you likely spotted a bright yellow smiley face or two, looking down at you.

That's the handiwork of San Ramon Valley High School senior Aidan Cox, 17, KTVU reported. Scattering smiley faces around town seemed to be a way to lift his neighbors' spirits as schools and other places closed, he told the station.

Each plywood sign takes days to complete, KTVU reported. As of last week, Cox had hung about 20 signs.

The signs got a nod from the Danville Chamber of Commerce, which shared photos of the signs on its Facebook page.

"Someone is spreading joy around us," the chamber wrote.

Cox said he plans to continue spreading his message of happiness beyond the Danville and Alamo areas.

"I feel really proud when I'm driving by and see them I think I did this myself," he told the station. "And it makes other people happy."
