Danville To Re-Evaluate Business Grant Program
Staff are proposing changes to expand flexibility and allow for smaller events benefitting local businesses.

DANVILLE, CA — The Danville Town Council will consider updates to its Business Promotion Fund Grant Policy Tuesday.
The policy, which was first adopted in 1993, governs how the town awards grants to support events promoting the business community, according to a town staff report. Grants have historically been awarded to a handful of organizations hosting large events, in which business owners have recently expressed diminished interest.
The updated policy would allow the town to award smaller grants, including single-business promotions of up to $200, and events involving as few as two participants. It would almost remove the current $50,000 appropriation cap, allowing for flexibility based on impact and funding. Grant amounts would be awarded based on the event size and expected attendance, and smaller awards would be approved by city staff. The new policy would also allow organizers not based in Danville, such as event planners and real estate firms, to be reimbursed for marketing costs if they host event benefitting eligible Danville businesses.

Staff said it hopes these changes will encourage more frequent, lower-lift events that can drive community engagement and foot traffic.
The program would use existing funds allocated through the town's operating budget, so no fiscal impact is anticipated.
