Danville Resident Offers Private Wine Tastings

Dima Jarjour's "Curated Pour" offers customized wine tastings with a local wine expert.

“The purpose is to help people who don’t know about wine, who are intimidated when they choose wine so they can be more adventurous when they choose different options,” said Danville resident Dima Jarjour.

DANVILLE, CA — Choosing the right wine for a party can be daunting, especially in a foodie paradise like California. If you’re hosting a party and want to treat guests to the best wines in the world, Danville resident Dima Jarjour has you covered.

Jarjour, a four-year Danville resident trained in fine wines, has started Curated Pour, which provides hand-curated wine and food tastings for private events. “The purpose is to help people who don’t know about wine, who are intimidated when they choose wine so they can be more adventurous when they choose different options,” she said. “A wine tasting is one of the greatest ideas to bring people together, where you can learn about new wines, and new styles.”

Jarjour has lived all over the world, most recently in Switzerland. While there, she decided she wanted to learn more about the wine industry, so she took courses from the Wine & Spirit Education Trust, traveled to vineyards all over Europe, and got certified as a wine professional. She has since gotten certified in Spanish wines, and is working on a certificate in French wines.

After Jarjour and her family moved to Danville, she worked for vineyards in Napa, but the commute from Danville was hard, and then the pandemic hit. She began blogging about wine, but after helping some friends with private wine tastings, decided to turn it into a business.

“People love this opportunity to be with a wine expert at a lowkey level, and avoid the snobbery and being intimidated or scared to ask questions,” she said. “I make the tasting fun, I usually choose wines that are budget-friendly, and there’s a story behind these wines, and I share my personal stories.”

A standard two-hour tasting comes with a flight of four selected wines. Prices vary depending on the wines, but start at $40 per person. Customers can also book a cheese and charcuterie board, crackers and dips, and savory bites. All glassware and silverware is provided.

A tasting can also consist of wine games, like quiz competitions on wine knowledge, or allowing guests to design their own labels.

“I think this is a great teambuilding idea - to have not just a retailer pour wine, but to hear more about it,” Jarjour said.
