The autumn equinox holds special significance in the world of yoga. This celestial event, occurring September 22nd, serves as a symbol of balance, transition, and inner harmony – concepts deeply woven into the fabric of yoga philosophy. Yoga, at its core, seeks to cultivate harmony between mind, body, and spirit. The Open House will be focused on these 3 themes of Balance, Transition and Focus.

Balance: The autumn equinox, a day when the duration of daylight and darkness is almost equal, mirrors this pursuit of balance. In yoga philosophy, the concept of "samatva" or equanimity encourages practitioners to remain steady amidst life's fluctuations, just as the earth maintains equilibrium during the equinox. The practice of balancing postures, such as Tree Pose (Vrikshasana) or Eagle Pose (Garudasana), can help us embrace the physical and mental equilibrium that this season symbolizes.

Transition: Autumn is a season of transition, a time when nature sheds its leaves and prepares for the coming winter. Similarly, in yoga, we are invited to let go of what no longer serves us – be it physical tension, emotional baggage, or mental clutter. This season encourages us to cultivate the art of surrender, much like the trees surrender their leaves. Incorporating gentle twists and forward folds into our practice can help us release physical and emotional tension, paving the way for a smoother transition into the next phase of our lives.

Focus: As nature turns inward, preparing for a period of hibernation, the autumn equinox invites us to cultivate our focus and direct it inwards. Practicing mindfulness and meditation can be particularly impactful during this time. As we transition from the external energies of summer to the more introspective atmosphere of autumn, focusing our attention on the breath and the present moment can lead to a deep sense of clarity and self-awareness.
