Former Danville Town Manager Was Longest Continually Serving City Manager In Western USA

On Monday, Joe Calabrigo left his post as the longest continually serving town manager in the western USA, and second longest in the USA.

DANVILLE, CA — The Danville Town Council proclaimed June 30, 2025 Joseph A. Calabrigo Day in Danville to honor his retirement after four decades of service to the town. At their June 17 meeting, town council members donned black tie attire to honor Calabrigo, who is thelongest continually-serving town or city manager in the western United States, and the second longest in the nation.

On Monday, Calabrigo left the job he had had since 1993.

Calabrigo began working with Danville in 1985, when he was hired as the town's chief of planning. In 1993, the Danville Town Council appointed him town manager. He is the third person to hold this position since the town was incorporated in 1982.

He has also served as the town's transportation director, administrative services director, and assistant town manager. He helped develop all three of Danville's General Plans, both Downtown Master Plans, and numerous other projects over his 40 years with the town. As town manager, he has delivered a balanced budget each year, including through three recessions and one pandemic, according to the town.

On Tuesday, former Assistant Town Manager Tai Williams took over as Danville's town manager. Williams has served as assistant town manager since 2017, and worked for the town since 1996.

Thank you, Joe, for your vision, leadership, and unwavering commitment to Danville. Enjoy your well-earned retirement!" the town said in a statement.
