Jupiter From The East Bay: Photo Of The Day
Danville resident Bob Schiff captured the Gas Giant at its closest point to Earth in 59 years from his backyard.

DANVILLE, CA — Jupiter reached its closest point to Earth since 1963 on Monday, and Patch's resident astronomer Bob Schiff (who has previously shared photos of Saturn and the Buck Supermoon) used his telescope and CMOS digital camera to grab a picture that includes the planet's Great Red Spot (which at 10,000 miles wide is big enough to fit three Earths.)
Even without a telescope, Jupiter burned bright these past few nights. The Solar System's largest planet was approximately 367 million miles away (at its farthest, it's about 600 million miles away.) Did you catch a glimpse?
Thanks for sharing, Bob!
