Made From Scratch: Forge Pizza

To the delight of foodies in the Tri-Valley, Oakland-original Forge Pizza restaurant opened in Danville last week.

The restaurant features handmade Neapolitan pies (thin-crust), a wide selection of craft beers on tap and unique American menu options (smashed beer-braised beets, for starters).

The Oakland wood-fired pizza place, mentioned as the “best new authentic pizza place,” by the East Bay Express earlier this year, is nestled in Iron Horse Plaza next to Lunardi’s Market.

“I think people in the area can appreciate urban entrepreneurship willing to come to this side of the tunnel,” executive chef Jeffrey Amber said.

So far, business has been “a little crazy” (the good kind) with wait times on the weekends.

And it’s no wonder--with pizzas that don’t drag down diners with dense dough, ingredients and toppings beautifully and boldly speak for themselves atop crisp crust.

Forge Pizza is located at 345 Railroad Ave., in Danville. Open 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. every day. Outdoor seating is available.
