DANVILLE, CA — Danville police are investigating a series of car break-ins in the Blackstone Drive area, according to the police department and news reports.
Danville police said that at least eight cars were recently broken into, with some leading to residential burglaries. Suspects gained access to at least five garages using garage door openers or programmed door opener buttons found in cars. Many of the vehicles were unlocked, police said.
NBC Bay Area and KRON4 reported that at around 7 a.m. Sunday, video footage shows a group of masked men breaking into multiple unlocked cars on Blackstone Drive. Resident Jeff Su told the outlet that the suspects went into a woman’s house, took her car keys while she was in the house, and tried to drive her car out of the driveway.

Resident Mike Pawlawski told the outlets that a few minutes later, three suspects came into his garage with hoodies. They broke into his cars, stole several of his knives, and used the garage clicker to get inside. Pawlawski said he chased them away and called the police. Police chased the suspects, but stopped once they reached an area that does not allow chases.
Danville police told residents to lock all cars, garages, and homes. Valuables, including garage door openers, should not be left visible or accessible inside parked cars. Residents are also advised to avoid using in-car programmable garage door buttons for added security.
