Mike Doyle, Long-Time Danville Council Member And Mayor, Dies At 96

Doyle, who served 25 years on the Town Council, is remembered for his dedication to maintaining Danville's character and small-town charm.

DANVILLE, CA — The town of Danville is mourning the loss of Mike Doyle, who served as a mayor and council member for over 25 years. Doyle passed away peacefully at his home in Danville next to his family on Oct. 19 at the age of 96, the town said in a news release.

Doyle was elected to the Danville Town Council in 1991, and served six terms and five mayorships before he retired in 2016. He also represented Danville on the Board of Directors of the League of California Cities for two decades.

Over his 25 years of service, he fought to maintain Danville's small-town charm and character through periods of growth. He was remembered for his straightforward style and commitment to both fiscal responsibility and maintaining the town's high quality of life.

“He called Danville his ‘Camelot’ and encouraged so many to get involved, including me,” said Mayor Renee Morgan. “Mike was direct, honest, and did it all with a twinkle in his eyes. He will always be affectionately remembered as ‘Da Mayor’ and his legacy will live on in the heart of Danville.”

Condolences came pouring in on the town's social media post, many of which expressed similar sentiments. "He leaves behind a lasting legacy of civic responsibility and service that helped shape the Danville we know and love today. Thank you, Mike! You made Danville better for all of us," wrote Dave Fong, who served as a council member from 2020 to 2024.

"He was a man of integrity, class, and an all-around great person to have laughs and fun wherever he went," wrote another commenter.

"The citizens of Danville are grateful for his sound judgment in leading the town to its charm and greatness," wrote another.

Doyle was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force. He served as a Chaplain's Assistant in Germany after World War II, where he provided aid to airmen, displaced persons, and local citizens. He later moved to Danville, where he and his wife Joe Anne raised five children.

"The Town extends its heartfelt condolences to Mike’s family and friends, including his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren," the town of Danville said in a statement. "His dedication, leadership, and love for Danville continues to inspire Town Councilmembers, staff, and the community."
