Mount Diablo Wind Gusts Among Bay Area's Highest During Blustery Start To Week

Mount Diablo was one of the windiest places to be Monday in the Bay Area, where power lines were toppled and thousands were without power.

CONTRA COSTA COUNTY, CA — Mount Diablo saw some of the highest winds in the Bay Area Monday amid a high wind advisory.

Mount Diablo saw a peak gust of 49 mph Monday, according to the National Weather Service Bay Area. It was tied for third place in a list of peak 24-hour wind gusts published Monday night.

The windiest spot to be? Near the Los Vaqueros Reservoir in eastern Contra Costa County, according to the weather service. Mount Saint Helena in the North Bay and Santa Rita in Salinas saw the second-highest winds at 53 mph.

High winds were expected to continue Tuesday in the Bay Area's highest elevations. Officials allowed the red flag warning to remain in place, meaning any wildfires sparked could quickly spread due to dry, windy conditions.
