Pilot Makes Emergency Landing In Contra Costa Co. Field Used To Water Cattle

BREAKING: A pilot and three passengers were flying from Oregon to San Jose when they tried to land at Byron Airport.

CONTRA COSTA COUNTY, CA — A pilot made an emergency landing in a field in unincorporated Contra Costa County north of the Byron Airport Monday night, fire officials said Tuesday. The emergency landing of a single-engine Cessna 177RG was first reported at 8:08 p.m. about a mile north of the airport.

A pilot and three passengers were flying from Oregon to Reid-Hillview Airport in San Jose when they experienced engine trouble and tried to land at Byron Airport, East Contra Costa Fire Protection District
Battalion Chief Ross Macumber said.

Macumber said that they couldn't make it to the airport and landed in a area that is used for watering cattle near the old Byron Hot Springs Hotel. Federal aviation and fire officials said no one was hurt. On board
were three adults and one child, all from the South Bay. The plane sustained minimal damage and did not leak any fuel.
