Danville High Schools Among Top In Bay Area: US News

Schools were ranked on subject proficiency, test scores, graduation rates, and more.

DANVILLE, CA — U.S. News and World Report released its high school rankings, which assign overall scores based on college readiness, college curriculum, state assessments, graduation rates, and more.

According to the newest rankings, Monte Vista High School is the 17th best public high school in the Bay Area, with an overall score of 96.81 out of 100. Monte Vista also ranks 76th out of California public high schools, and 563rd in the nation. It is ranked second out of SRVUSD’s four high schools - behind Dougherty Valley and ahead of SRVHS and Cal High.

  • How many students have taken at least one AP Exam (76%)
  • How many have passed at least one AP Exam (64%)
  • How many students are proficient in mathematics according to state assessments (63%)
  • How many students are deemed proficient in reading according to state assessments (86%)
  • How many students are deemed proficient in science according to state assessments (53%)
  • Graduation rate (98%)

San Ramon Valley High School received an overall score of 92.52, which placed it third in the district, 28th in the Bay Area, 181st in California, and 1,320th in the nation. It received the following percentages:

  • How many students have taken at least one AP Exam (54%)
  • How many have passed at least one AP Exam (40%)
  • How many students are proficient in mathematics according to state assessments (59%)
  • How many students are deemed proficient in reading according to state assessments (84%)
  • How many students are deemed proficient in science according to state assessments (47%)
  • Graduation rate (98%)

Dougherty Valley High School ranked first in the district, third in the Bay Area, 19th in California, and 155th best in the nation,with an overall score of 99.12. The next highest in the Tri-Valley is Amador Valley High School in Pleasanton (score of 97.49, 443rd in the country, 60th in California, 12th in Bay Area), followed by Foothill High School in Pleasanton (score of 97.19, 496th in the country, 67th in California.)

The top schools in California are Riverside Stem Academy in Riverside, Whitney High School in Cerritos, and Science Academy Stem Magnet in North Hollywood. The best high school in the country is BASIS Peoria in Peoria, Arizona, according to rankings.
