Shields To Step Down As Danville Police Chief
Chief Allan Shields is stepping down at the end of the year, and will be replaced by CCSO Lt. Thomas Rossberg.

DANVILLE, CA —Danville Police Chief Allan Shields is stepping down Dec. 31, the town announced Friday. Shields, who has served as Danville's police chief since 2017, plans to return to the Contra Costa Sheriff's Office, where he will retire.
Shields served 25 years with CCSO, which contracts with the Danville Police Department. Before he was named chief, Shields served as CCSO's investigations supervisor and administrative lieutenant with the Danville Police Department.
During his seven years as chief, Shields presided over a town that has been named the safest in California several years in a row.
In addition to implementing many new investigation and crime prevention technologies, Shields spearheaded community outreach programs like the 10-8 in service weekly live program, the Citizen and Youth Police academies, and Recess with a Cop.

The town has selected Sheriff's Lieutenant Thomas Rossberg to succeed Shields, and he will be introduced at Wednesday's Town Council meeting. Rossberg has served with the CCSO for 20 years, and is currently the assistant division commander for the CCSO Emergency Services Division. He has served as a patrol officer, K-9 officer, and field training officer in Danville.
