“Coaching the fastest 200 free relay team in the state alongside my assistant coach Taylor Herman has been an incredible honor,” San Ramon Valley High School Swim Coach Heather Johnston said. "Our team's success this year is particularly rewarding because most of our swimmers are actually recreational athletes. Two of them only joined competitive year round teams last summer! Despite going up against programs stacked with year-round swimmers, mostly from private schools, our boys pulled off a stunning victory. It's a true testament to the power of teamwork, something we really emphasize here at SRV. These athletes prioritized the team's goals above their own achievements, and it paid off huge. What makes this win even more special is their long-standing friendship. They grew up swimming summer rec together starting at five years old. They are also on SRV's water polo team and are best friends. To watch them win a state championship together in their last race was something I'll never forget.”
