SRVUSD Hosting Prescription Drug Abuse Education Workshop

The workshop Wednesday will focus on current drug abuse trends, and feature optional overdose prevention training.

DANVILLE, CA — The San Ramon Valley Unified School District is hosting a drug prevention workshop for parents and caretakers Wednesday entitled “Celebrating and protecting our youth - and learn to save a life.”

The workshop will focus on prescription drug dangers, current drug trends among teens, and the possibility of Fentanyl exposure due to illegal drugs and misuse of prescriptions. In 2021, California saw nearly 6,000 opioid-related overdose deaths, according to the California Department of Public Health.

Attendees can also choose to receive overdose rescue training and free Narcan kits from 7 to 7:30 p.m.

“Prescription drug abuse awareness and fentanyl overdose prevention training is integral to safeguarding the health and well-being of our community,” SRVUSD Superintendent John Malloy said in a statement. “We understand that combating this crisis requires collective education and support, rather than stigma or blame.”

The workshop will take place Wednesday from 5:30-7 p.m. at SRVUSD’s Education Center at 699 Old Orchard Drive in Danville. See here to register.
