Car Chase through Chino Ends with Driver's Death

A motorist who led the Chino Police on a wild pursuit died when he into a flood control channel.

DIAMOND BAR, CA — A Tuesday morning car chase that began near Diamond Bar--where a motorist led Chino police on a pursuit to Pomona Tuesday--ended with the death of that motorist when he crashed his vehicle into a flood control channel, authorities said.

The crash occurred about 8:30 a.m. near Franklin Avenue and East End Avenue, the Pomona Police Department reported.

The man, in his 40s, died at the scene, said coroner's Assistant Chief Ed Winter. His name was withheld, pending notification of his relatives.

"Chino police pursued a vehicle traveling at (a) high rate of speed into the Pomona city limits," a Pomona police statement said. "The suspect vehicle lost control, crashing into the San Antonio Creek Channel."

It was not immediately known what prompted the pursuit.
