Coming To San Gabriel Valley: Iconic Russian Bakery Plans 1-Day Pop-Up

Order sweet & savory, Eastern-European pastries from Piroshky Piroshky of Seattle's Pike Place Market, for June 2 pick-up in West Covina.

WEST COVINA, CA — Piroshky Piroshky, a beloved Russian bakery in Seattle, is marking its 30th anniversary with a U.S. tour, including a stop in the San Gabriel Valley.

Pre-orders can be placed online by May 31 for June 2 pick-up at the Elks Lodge in West Covina.

Opened in 1992 in Seattle's Pike Place Market and dubbed "iconic" by Smithsonian Magazine, Piroshky Piroshky often has lines out the door of customers craving such scratch-made, Eastern-European sweet and savory pastries as cinnamon cardamom braid, marzipan rolls, pierogies and the traditional, hand-held "piroshky" stuffed pies.

The shop was featured on the late celebrity chef Anthony Bourdain's “No Reservations” and was voted one of “The 20 Most Iconic Food Destinations Across America” by Smithsonian Magazine.

“We are blessed to be traveling around the country, meeting our community while bringing Seattle’s best vendors with us,” said Olga Sagan, Piroshky Piroshky owner. "The concept of 'breaking bread' has been a unifying factor over the ages for many communities. And when you break it and see a delicious filling inside — it’s even better!"

Among offerings available at the one-day pop-up are: beef & cheese, chicken, curry & rice or beef & potato piroshky, vegan borscht, potato & cheese pierogies, pork & chicken pelmeni (traditional Russian dumplings), cinnamon cardamom braid, chocolate cream hazelnut rolls, Moscow rolls and rhubarb piroshky with Bavarian cream.
