Third-year NFL veteran is center with New England Patriots.

INDIANAPOLIS – Diamond Bar High alum Ryan Wendell is playing in Super Bowl XLVI with the Patriots this weekend.

The center, who has played in parts of 14 games this year and is a three-year NFL player, signed with the Patriots in 2008 and has had spot work in front of one of the all-time great NFL quarterbacks in Tom Brady.

Wendell, a Diamond Bar Athletics Hall of Fame inductee, played college football at Fresno State.

Though the Patriots enter the game having been ranked No. 31 in the NFL in total defense to end the regular season, head coach Bill Belichick is not worried.

“It is the same as it is every week,” he said. “We have to go out and play a good football game all the way around in all three phases of the game. The Giants are good on offense, defense and special teams. They are well-coached, disciplined and tough. We will have to match their effort and do a little bit more.”
