Drunk Driver Flips Over, Hits Roof Of Other Car: Dublin Police

A speeding Tesla police say didn't apply its brakes veered off the roadway, flipped over, and hit another car, causing major injuries.

DUBLIN, CA - Dublin police have released new information on the Friday evening crash at San Ramon Road and Amador Valley Boulevard that resulted in a DUI arrest and significant injuries for both parties.

A Dublin Police Services investigation revealed that on Friday at 9:51 p.m., a Tesla was driving at a high rate of speed on San Ramon Road when it hit a pedestrian sign and traffic signal sign at Silvergate Drive. The Tesla continued to speed southbound on San Ramon Road, according to police. Just before the intersection, the Tesla veered off the right edge of the roadway, striking irrigation boxes and landscaping shrubs.

It continued traveling southbound across the westbound lane of Amador Valley Boulevard when it struck the center median. The Tesla flew into the air and struck the roof of a Honda Odyssey that was stopped at a red light at eastbound Amador Valley Boulevard at San Ramon Valley Road. The Tesla flipped onto its roof before finally stopping at the southwest corner of San Ramon Road and Amador Valley Boulevard. The Tesla driver was trapped in their vehicle when police arrived, DPS said.

The driver of the Tesla, and the driver and passenger of the Honda, were transported to local hospital with major injuries.

DPS units helped extricate the driver of the Tesla, and said they smelled alcohol in the Tesla. The driver, whose name was not given, was arrested on DUI charges, which will be amended pending results of the blood test and determination of the injuries of the driver and passenger of the Odyssey. Police also said there was no indication that the driver of the Tesla applied brakes before any of the crashes.
