DUBLIN, CA — The Big Lots at 7991 Amador Valley Boulevard in Dublin will close in January, according to both a large “Store Closing” banner and a company spokesperson. An exact date was not provided.

“Our store at 7991 Amador Valley Blvd., Dublin, CA will close in January for business reasons. We review our store portfolio on an ongoing basis and sometimes decide, for a variety of business reasons, to close or relocate,” said Big Lots spokesperson Joshua Chaney.

“We’re offering great discounts on the store’s remaining inventory available to area customers now. We are grateful to all our Dublin customers for shopping with us over the years and invite them to continue shopping [at] our nearby store in Livermore and online at biglots.com.”

A store employee told Patch that the discount chain is offering up to 40 percent off on select items until the closure. She also said that most food will be sold at five percent off.

The discount chain is planning an accelerated number of store closures throughout the country, according to reports in Best Life Online and CBS. During a Dec. 1 earnings call, Big Lots Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer Jonathan Ramsden said that net sales were down by 9.8 percent and losses amounted to $87 million. President and CEO Bruce Thorn said that the losses, which are far larger than the $4 million reported in December 2021, are due to inflation slowing down discretionary spending.

At the same time, the company plans to open stores, even though it is closing more stores than it is opening. Ramsden said on the call that the chain plans to open stores in rural locations, where there is less competition and lower costs.

As Chaney noted, the Big Lots in Livermore remains open. Dollar Tree, another discount chain, also has locations at 7775 Amador Valley Boulevard in Dublin and 4226 Rosewood Drive in Pleasanton. There is also a TJ Maxx at Hacienda Crossings Shopping Center at 4840 Dublin Boulevard.
