DUBLIN, CA — Hobby Lobby, an arts & crafts store in Dublin Plaza located next to Target, Burlington, and 99 Ranch will close its doors Jan. 6, an employee confirmed to Patch.

The store plans to relocate to a new store at the Southland Mall in Hayward, which will be open Jan. 29, the employee said. As a result, there will be no closing sales, and all excess inventory will be moved to Hayward.

The City of Dublin is considering incorporating the area in Dublin Place into its Downtown Dublin Preferred Vision. “Over the last seven years the City of Dublin has engaged the public, property owners, and stakeholders to design a long-desired, vibrant, pedestrian-friendly Downtown in the heart of Dublin," Deputy City Manager Hazel Wetherford said in a statement shared with Patch. “Those efforts culminated in the adoption of the Downtown Preferred Vision by City Council in November of 2019. That Preferred Vision calls for the redevelopment of portions of the existing properties that comprise the Downtown area. The City is aware of ongoing discussions between the property owner and their tenants intended to facilitate bringing to fruition the highly anticipated Downtown Vision.”

The Oklahoma-based chain operates over 1,000 stores in 48 states, including Pleasant Hill, Antioch, Tracy, and San Mateo. Anyone who doesn’t feel like traveling to Hayward next year can head next door to Joann or across the street to Michaels.
