DUBLIN, CA — The latest totals available from Alameda County still show Councilmember Sherry Hu leading her three competitors for mayor. As of 1:03 a.m. Wednesday, Hu leads with 3,153 votes, or 36.71%, with all precincts reporting. In second place is Tom Evans, with 2,809 votes (32.7%), followed by Councilmember Jean Josey with 2,323 votes (27.05%), followed by Shawn Costello, with 304 votes (3.54 percent.)

All numbers do not reflect final totals, which the county will certify in the coming days.

As of Wednesday afternoon, Hu has not responded to Patch's request for comment. Evans commented only on his disapproval for Measure JJ, a measure to extend term limits and improve government transparency that is currently leading by a wide margin.

"While there are still many, many votes to be counted, it does not appear as if the outcome will be in my favor," Josey told Patch in a statement. "It matters how we win and how we lose, and I’m proud of the campaign my volunteers and I ran. Our kids are looking to us to be role models, and we ran a positive campaign and never compromised our integrity. The voters of Dublin chose a different candidate, and I honor their decision. I’ll continue to serve all residents of Dublin in my role on City Council for the next two years."

In District 3, John Morada maintains a modest lead over Razi Hasni of 899 (54.22%) to 759 (45.78 percent.) "I want to thank Dublin residents for voting. Regardless of outcome, I look forward to further conversations and town halls with my neighbors. Too often we are busy living in a democracy that we forget to participate in it. Let’s own our future," Morada said in a statement to Patch.

"We ran a positive campaign , focused on the issues," Hasni wrote Patch. "If the results hold, our campaign came up just a bit short and I’d like to thank all our supporters for their dedication! Let’s continue making sure that Dublin remains the amazing city we all know and love."

Measures

Measure II, a ballot measure to allow limited commercial development on 180 acres of unincorporated land just east of Dublin city limits, close to the planned expansion of Dublin Boulevard into Livermore, continues to lead 4,995 (57.92%) to 3,629 (42.08 percent.)

Measure JJ, also known as the Government Accountability Act, would extend term limits for newly-elected council members from eight years, which is currently one of the shortest in the region, to 12 years. It also bans council members and commissioners from accepting gifts from lobbyists and city contractors, prohibits lobbyists from serving on city commissions, and requires all city contracts to be posted online for public review. Yes votes are currently leading No votes 6,806 (79.5%) to 1,755 (20%.)

"I have to say that Measure JJ passing with such a high percentage is surprising. Both the Alameda County Grand Jury Association as well as the San Jose Mercury pointed out the disingenuous nature of the ballot name," Evans told Patch, noting sentiments shared by Josey that the transparency regulations already exist, and the measure is only about term limits. "Sounds like Dubliners really want to extend term limits from 8 years to 12 years. And if that’s what the voters want, then that’s what we should do."

DUSD Board of Trustees

Kristian Reyes continues to lead Ramnath Shanbhogue 907 (56.94%) to 686 (43.06 percent.) Patch reached out to both candidates for comment.
