DUBLIN, CA — The Dublin City Council voted 4-0 Tuesday to appoint former Councilmember Michael McCorriston as the new mayor. McCorriston replaces former Mayor Melissa Hernandez, who resigned early due to her new position representing District 5 on the BART Board of Directors.

McCorriston, who has served on the council since 2020, begins serving immediately. He will serve until the end of the term in December, when Hernandez would have originally left. The city posted a vacancy for an at-large position on the City Council that is open to all residents and registered voters in Dublin. The deadline to apply is Wednesday, June 12 at 5 p.m., and the City Council will consider applicants during their meeting on Tuesday, June 18. See here for more information.

The BART Board of Directors appointed Hernandez the new District 5 representative on May 23, after former representative John McPartland announced his immediate resignation due to private family matters. Hernandez was one of three under consideration to represent the region comprising Dublin, Pleasanton, Livermore, Sunol, Hayward, and Castro Valley. In addition to serving on the Dublin City Council since 2016, Hernandez has also chaired the Livermore-Amador Valley Transit Authority, Valley Link, and the finance committee of the Alameda County Transportation Commission.

“As some of you may have already learned, I have been appointed to the BART Board of Directors. For this reason, I must depart as mayor of Dublin a few months prior to my term ending,” Hernandez said in a video released on the city website. “To the residents of Dublin, I am grateful. Your unwavering support, dedication, and passion for the city has been the driving force behind every decision as your mayor. It has been an honor and a privilege to serve, and fortunately, I will continue to represent Dublin in my new role with bart. So know that there are many great things to come.
