Why Some Items Are 49 Cents This Week At Ross Dress For Less

DUBLIN, CA — Ross Dress for Less caught the internet’s attention this week when it marked some items as low as 49 cents.

“Every single year Ross Dress for Less marks down a ton of stuff — including name-brand stuff — for as low as 49 cents,” Kayla Burk, known as Coupon with Kayla online, told her more than 500,000 Instagram followers.

Burk later took to social media to share that she had found jeans for 49 cents and boots for $1.49.

The Dublin-based chain of stores was promoting the year-end clearance discounts Monday.

“Our biggest markdowns of the year are in store,” Ross Dress for Less posted on Facebook. “These deals won’t last long so head to Ross today!”

The chain’s customer service department told NBCLA in a statement that the company marks down items each week, with some merchandise getting priced at 49 cents, depending on how long it has been in the store.

Shaimarie Franqui — orlandoqponqueen on Instagram — advised her followers to expect deep cuts to gift sets, Christmas items and bedding.

TikTok user queentayshops told her followers she had gone to Ross Dress for Less and found people shouting at workers and a line wrapped around the back of the store.

“This is why we can’t have nice things,” she said.
